About the Show

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny, and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life-un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.​

What do you need to do?

• Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the audition time to complete the registration information.

• Please bring a non-returnable recent photograph of the person auditioning.

• No experience is required.

• Please prepare 1 minute (roughly 32 bars) of a contemporary musical theatre song that shows
  your range.

• The audition process includes vocal performance, learning a short dance number, and reading from the script.

• No prepared monologues are required.

Cast Details

• Cast size will be limited.

• All roles sing and dance.

• Not all who audition will be cast.

Rehearsals are held:

• Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:00-7:30pm

• Sundays: 2:00-4:00pm

• You must be at rehearsals when your role is called according to the schedule.

• Not every role is required at every rehearsal.

• Four rehearsals will be allowed to be missed for lead roles and two for ensemble roles.

• Tech week and all shows are mandatory.
